After Paulo Fonseca, Andre Silva could follow

After Paulo Fonseca, Andre Silva could follow

After the confirmation that Paulo Fonseca is the new manager of Roma, one of his compatriots in Andre Silva could follow him to the club.

Silva, the man Ronaldo envisages to be his successor for the Portugal national team, spent last season on loan at Sevilla but will not remain at the Spanish club next campaign, while his parent club AC Milan also seem unlikely to want to keep him on.

Silva therefore faces a big summer as agent Jorge Mendes looks for a new club for his client, and AS Roma under the management of Paulo Fonseca are seen as a major contender to bring in the Portuguese striker.

He won't be short of suitors though, and two other clubs that are seen as potential destinations for the 23-year old due to their affiliations with Jorge Mendes are Wolves and Monaco, although the latter already have both Falcão and Jovetic in their ranks; you would expect that one of them would have to be sold for Silva to be brought in.

Roma, however, are also believed to be interested - or, more specifically, it is new manager Paulo Fonseca that is believed to be targeting the 33-time international.

Fonseca, former manager of Braga and Porto, had a very successful time in Ukraine with Shakhtar, able to lift both the Ukrainian Premier League title and the Ukrainian Cup in each of his three years in charge of the club, which was ultimately enough to entice Roma to sign him up.

He also won both the Ukrainian Super Cup and the Ukrainian Premier League manager of the year in 2017, giving him a total of 7 accolades in his three years at the club.

As well as that, he led Shakhtar to the Champions League round of 16 last season, making it out of a tough group containing both Manchester City and Napoli, narrowly losing in the first knockout round to Roma, going out on away goals.
