Santa Clara 3-3 Braga; Belenenses 2-3 Porto; Nacional 1-2 Moreirense; Rio Ave 3-1 Maritimo
The incredible goalscoring spree in the Portuguese league continued as 18 goals were scored in just four games on Sunday, while Braga and Porto were both in action - and had differing fortunes in their second games of the new league campaign.
In the earlier kick-offs, Moreirense travelled to Nacional, where they edged out a 2-1 victory courtesy of a Tavares winner on the hour mark, leaving Nacional pointless after two games, while Rio Ave breezed to a 3-1 home victory over Maritimo in what was their first league win of the season and saw them jump above their opponents in the table.
Porto then played out what was eventually an enthralling battle with Belenenses; having stormed to an impressive 2-0 lead in the first 50 minutes - with 19-year old centreback Diogo Leite getting the first with a tidy header in the 26th minute after an Alex Telles cross and Otavio getting the second just after the restart - it all looked to be plain sailing for the reigning league champions.
However, a spirited Belenenses side refused to give in, and overturned the deficit with just a few minutes of normal time left to play, with Fredy getting the first from the penalty spot in the 55th minute, before he then turned provider in the 83rd, assisting centreback Keita to put the game on level terms.
With Belenenses pegging back Porto and maintaining their lead as stoppage time approached, it seemed as though they were going to cling onto an unlikely - but well-deserved - point in the second round of fixtures, which would have seen them sit in fourth place and undefeated heading into week three.
However, after an unintentional handball from close distance in the Belenenses penalty box was reviewed for several minutes using the help of VAR - which is being used in Portuguese football for the second season in a row - a penalty was awarded to Porto in the 96th minute, which was calmly slotted home by Porto leftback Alex Telles to continue Porto's winning start to the season and see the title holders jump up to first in the league on goal difference.
Meanwhile, Braga rounded off a disappointing week - which saw them exit the Europa League at the expense of Ukrainian outfit Zorya on Thursday in the third quailfying round - with a highly frustrating draw to newly-promoted Santa Clara, despite having a comfortable 3-goal lead at half time after goals from Pedro Santos, Wilson Eduardo and Dyego Sousa.
Indeed, Santa Clara stunned the Europa League perennials immediately after the restart thanks to Thiago Santana, who found the back of the net barely a minute after the second half kicked off. The goalscoring forward then turned provider an hour into the game, setting up Ze Manuel to give the hosts renewed hope to take points off last season's fourth place finishers.
And it was centreback Fabio Cardoso who completed the comeback just five minutes later, with the former Rangers player - and recent summer signing - nodding home to earn Santa Clara their first point of the season and confirm Braga's second half capitulation.
The only match left of the gameweek is Feirense against Guimaraes, with the former travelling to Guimaraes for their clash on Monday evening.
