Ruben Semedo in demand

Ruben Semedo in demand

Ruben Semedo is a man in demand this transfer window as clubs begin to make an approach for the Olympiakos centreback.

The Portuguese defender, who was called up to Portugal's most recent squad, has had an excellent campaign in Greece, leading Olympiakos to the Greek title under the management of compatriot Pedro Martins without losing a single league game.

He has, however, been a controversial figure due to his exploits off the pitch while playing in Spain.

While on the books of Villarreal, Semedo was accused of several serious crimes, and was found guilty of kidnap, assault and the possession of a firearm.

As a result, the former Sporting defender has been given a five-year suspended prison sentence and will not be allowed to enter Spain for the next 8 years.

Semedo previously spent several months in prison while in Spain after being charged for an array of offences.

But, now back at his best and letting his football do the talking, Semedo is attracting interest from several established European clubs - and Benfica and Porto are both amongst those that are keen on bringing in the 26-year old this summer for a fee in the region of €9million.

Bundesliga outfits Schalke and Bayer Leverkusen are among the other clubs to have also been linked with a move for Semedo.
