Olyampiakos' Portuguese contingent increases even further with three Portuguese arriving
Olympiakos’ latest dealings in the transfer market ensure three more Portuguese players are added to their side, taking their contingent of Portuguese players up to a very healthy seven.
With goalkeeper Jose Sa, centreback Ruben Semedo and defensive midfielder Cafu already at the club, Pêpê arrived in Greece last month from Vitoria Guimaraes to take the number of Portuguese athletes at Olympiakos to four, while Nottingham Forest midfielder Tiago Silva has now also officially made his move to the Greek champions on a permanent deal.
Silva represented Forest in the English Championship on 44 occasions last campaign - his one and only season at the club having arrived from Feirense on a free transfer - scoring 3 and assisting 4.
However, after a solid showing in the English second tier, he has since moved across to Forest’s sister club Olympiakos, with the two clubs sharing the same owner in Evangelos Marinakis.
Silva is not the only Portuguese arrival either, with pacey Portuguese international winger Bruma arriving at the club on an initial loan deal from Dutch outfit PSV, who have the option to make the move permanent. Bruma, 25, has represented the Portugal senior team on 9 occasions already, and has, like Silva, already signed for the club.
Bruma represented PSV on 18 occasions last season, scoring 3 and assisting 3, and had already featured in 3 Eredivisie games for the club this campaign too. He has previously represented Galatasaray, RB Leipzig and Sporting CP.
There is then one more Portuguese also making the move to Greece, with English-based Portugal youth international Ruben Vinagre also completing a loan move to Olympiakos, the Wolverhampton Wanderers leftback joining for the entirety of the upcoming season, while there will also be the option to make the deal permanent.
Vinagre, who lifted the U17 and U19 European Championship titles with Portugal in 2016 and 2018 respectively, only ever played a backup role at Wolves, unable to dislodge Jonny in the starting XI, and a move may be exactly what the 21-year old needs to advance his career.
With seven Portuguese players now plying their trade for the biggest club in Greece, they also have a Portuguese manager at the helm in Pedro Martins.
