Portugal drop down in the latest FIFA World Rankings

The FIFA World Rankings have now been updated - and sees European champions Portugal fall down from where they were last time.

In June, Portugal, upon winning the UEFA Nations League, rose by two places to 5th in the world rankings, leapfrogging both Croatia and Switzerland in the process.

Now, however, Portugal have dropped down by one place, falling below Uruguay, who move up 3 places to 5th after reaching the quarter final of the Copa America.

Brazil have also risen by a single place to 2nd after winning the competition, leapfrogging world champions France in the process.

It is Belgium, however, who remain 1st in the world rankings, their efforts in the World Cup last year playing a significant role, while their form in the Euro 2020 qualifiers is also maintaining the position at the top of the rankings.

Meanwhile, Carlos Queiroz’s Colombia are 8th, rising by 5 places after winning 3 matches at the Copa America.

England are then ranked 4th, Croatia 7th, Spain 9th, and Argentina 10th. Germany are then 15th, the 2014 world champions falling a further 4 places compared to June, and both Italy and The Netherlands are 16th.

Unsurprisingly, it is Algeria that have risen the most in the rankings after their AFCON 2019 success, rising by an incredible 28 places, from 68th to 40th after winning the competition earlier this month.
