Strong words from Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira as he hints at imminent João Felix sale

Strong words from Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira as he hints at imminent João Felix sale

Luis Filipe Vieira was speaking to members as he discussed several matters, including João Felix.

Speaking about the 19-year old star, Vieira suggested that the only way Benfica may be able to keep Felix is if they sell him and then loan him back to the club for another season.

The change of stance came amid a general assembly with the Benfica members, with the Benfica president seeming to indicate that Felix's head has been turned.

Vieira said: "When we sit down with players and they tell us "president I can earn five million; president, do not make me stay here..."

"João Félix had a 60 million release clause, someone (LFV) realised after he made just two or three appearances for the main team to increase it to 120 million."

"It is João Félix and his family who will decide if he stays. If anyone bids 120 million it is not worth dreaming [about him staying]."

He's certainly changed his stance on the matter, having previously indicated that nothing less than his release clause would be accepted.

Luis Filipe Vieira continued: "We are trying everything we can to ensure that he stays. The only way João stays is if we sell him and keep him another year [on loan]. If not, João leaves, there is no room to negotiate further, he doesn't want to. How will Benfica negotiate with someone who has a proposal of six million euros after tax?"

Vieira also had words to say about João Filipe, who currently only has a concerning low termination clause. He said: "Jota currently has a 30 million release clause, we wanted to renew, but it wasn't possible," suggesting that there is no room for further negotiation.

"They like Benfica, but they also like money."

There was better news for Benfica fans though, with Vieira expressing confidence that an agreement with Florentino has been reached.

"Florentino had a release clause of 60 million, we are negotiating with his agent to increase that to 120 million. I think we have reached an agreement."

He also suggested with some confidence that Ruben Dias' release clause will be increased from 60 million to 115 million euros.
