Daniel Carriço: Portuguese international centreback could be on the move

Portuguese centreback Daniel Carriço could be set to leave La Liga outfit Sevilla as he enters final year of his contract.

Carriço, 30, sees his contract end in June 2020 and, with few signs that his deal will successfully be extended, could leave for free at the end of the coming season.

With that in mind, Sevilla, now managed by former Porto boss Julen Lopetegui, could decide to sell the one-time international while they can.

It means that after 6 years with Sevilla, having arrived at the Spanish club from Reading in 2012, Carriço could be on his way out.

Last season Carriço played 24 of Sevilla’s 38 league matches, captaining the side on several occasions as he helped his side achieve 6th place in the league table.

Indeed, of the 14 games he missed, Sevilla lost 9 and only won 2 matches - a shocking return for a side like Sevilla, illustrating the importance of Carriço to his team.

Meanwhile, of the 24 matches he did play in, Sevilla lost just 4 times and won 15, further emphasising the impact he has on his team.

It is unknown where he will go should Sevilla opt to cash in on him, though Valencia are seen as one potential destination.
