Portuguese international midfielder expected to be on the move, either in January or the summer

Portuguese international Danilo Pereira is likely to complete a move away from Porto in the not-too-distant future.

The 28-year old defensive midfielder, who has represented the Portugal 34 times at senior level and has been included in Fernando Santos’ latest squad to take on both Luxembourg and Ukraine, has been at Porto since 2015.

He is also the current captain of the club following the summer departure of Hector Herrera to Atletico Madrid and the semi-retirement of Iker Casillas, and has featured in 10 of Porto’s 12 competitive matches this campaign across all competitions.

He has played in 6 of Porto’s 7 Primeira Liga matches this season too, missing the entirety of Porto’s opening day defeat against Gil Vicente, but playing in, and winning, all the league matches played since then.

However, Danilo has not been in the best of form for club and country of late, and according to TVI, Danilo’s departure “will be inevitable”, with Danilo very keen on moving on sooner rather than later, to the displeasure of those in the Porto hierarchy.

The solution, therefore, is for Danilo to leave, with Porto looking to cash in for the player whilst they still can.

It can be recalled that Danilo Pereira and Sergio Conceicao had a falling out earlier on in the season, with Danilo upset about Conceicao turning up late to dinner, though their differences were rapidly resolved and Danilo quickly became integrated back into the side.

It can also be recalled that Leonardo Jardim’s AS Monaco were one of the sides that submitted a significant 30 million euro bid for Danilo Pereira in the summer, though the offer was ultimately rejected.

Danilo Pereira currently has a release clause of 60 million euros, though they are expected to entertain bids in the region of 30 to 40 million euros.

Wolves’ Ruben Neves has also recently been tentatively linked with Real Madrid in recent days, and though those reports are likely wide of the mark, Danilo, the man that forced Ruben Neves out of Porto back in 2017, would be a good replacement for his compatriot.
