Benfica offered ex-Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal to succeed Rui Vitoria

Ex Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has been offered to Benfica as the potential successor to the departing Rui Vitoria.

The Dutch manager, now 67, has not managed a side since he was dismissed by Manchester United in 2016, meaning he has been out of the dugout for over 2 years.

However, according to both Diario de Noticias and A Bola, that may be about to change, with van Gaal one of the names that has entered the mind of Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira.

Vieira has vowed that an announcement on the next Benfica manager will not be made until next week, but it seems the Dutchman is now one of the names in the hat to take the reigns at the Portuguese club.

Louis van Gaal has won 7 league titles in his managerial career across 3 different countries (Netherlands, Spain and Germany). He also led Ajax to victory in the Champions League in 1995.

The former Netherlands manager currently resides in the Algarve, Portugal.
