Benfica's interim coach is a familiar face to some football fans in England

Benfica's interim coach is a familiar face to some football fans in England

He isn't expected to stay in charge for very long, but Benfica's interim manager will oversee the Lisbon club's clash with Rio Ave - and may be a familiar face to those who watch the English game.

Bruno Lage is the man who is stepping up into that role; a name that one may not be immediately familiar with, but someone many may recognise.

That is because Lage has worked in England with two different clubs, one of which was in the Premier League.

Lage served as the assistant manager to Carlos Carvalhal for two years at Sheffield Wednesday, before then joining up with the popular manager again when he joined Swansea City just 4 days after his sacking.

Ultimately, Carvalhal's spell at Swansea ended in disappointment, with the club relegated to the second tier, and he and Lage went their separate ways, the latter joining Benfica to manage the B team.

He has done a good with them so far, with Benfica B currently sitting 4th in the second division in the Portuguese league system, and he is now set to take to the Benfica dugout to manage the senior side, albeit briefly.

Lage is not expected to remain in charge for any longer than two matches, with club president Luis Filipe Vieira looking to appoint a new manager as soon as possible.
