The curious case of Nelson Oliveira is officially resolved

The curious case of Nelson Oliveira is officially resolved

Reading have completed the loan signing of Norwich City striker Nelson Oliveira until the end of the season.

It comes after a surprisingly unproductive campaign for the Portuguese international, who has not only failed to play a single minute for Norwich this season, but has been left out of every single Norwich squad across all competitions.

Considering he played 37 of Norwich's 46 games last season, it comes as even more of a surprise for a player who seemed to be a relatively important player for the Championship club.

Chipping in with 8 goals and 3 assists in those games, the Portuguese striker produced a decent return for his side last campaign, though they only managed a 14th place finish come the end of the season.

Oliveira therefore needed a move to get his career back on track, and his destination is finally confirmed.

As was widely expected, the 27-year old, once deemed the future star striker of the Portugal national team, has completed a loan move to Reading, who were actively pursuing the option to bring in the 17-time senior international.

With compatriot Jose Gomes now at the helm, a manager who will know all about the potential Oliveira showed when in Portugal, the move became increasingly likely, and was very quickly sealed.

The Reading manager remained coy on any interest in the forward only last week, commenting that he is a "good striker" and he "cannot comment" on Reading's reported interest in the former Benfica player.

With Oliveira completely out of the picture at Norwich though, who sit in 2nd place in the Championship, he was always going to be available to any potential suitors, and is why the deal progressed so quickly.

Reading will be hoping he proves an excellent addition, with the side currently stranded in the relegation zone of England's second tier.
