Primeira Liga: Three games in and no side has a perfect record as Braga lead the way

Primeira Liga: Three games in and no side has a perfect record as Braga lead the way

Braga have moved up to first in the league table after an impressive display against Aves in one of the final matches of the third game week, toppling both Benfica and Sporting on goal difference.

Braga emerged 3-1 winners over Aves courtesy of goals from Wilson Eduardo, summer-signing Joao Palhinha and free-scoring Brazilian-born Dyego Sousa, who is making something of a case to potentially represent Portugal in the not too distant future should he maintain his early season form.

Meanwhile Benfica and Sporting played out a 1-1 draw at the Estadio da Luz this weekend, with young Benfica star Joao Felix getting a late equaliser to rescue a point for Benfica and to prevent what would have been an outstanding result for their arch-rivals Sporting.

The only other side sitting on seven points alongside the top three is, perhaps surprisingly, not reigning champions FC Porto, who suffered a disappointing home defeat to Guimaraes on Saturday, throwing away a two-goal lead to drop all three points. Instead, it is Feirense who occupy fourth in the table at this early stage in the season, having followed up impressive victories over Rio Ave and Guimaraes with a draw against Boavista.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the table, every team has at least one point on the board already, and it is Portimonense, Aves and Tondela who currently occupy the bottom three.

While incredibly early days still, the possibility of seeing Braga win an unlikely first ever league title remains on the cards - particularly with no Europa League distraction - and here is the full table:
