Vitoria Guimarães continue their stunning transfer window with the signing of Porto's João Carlos Teixeira

Vitoria Guimarães continue their stunning transfer window with the signing of Porto's João Carlos Teixeira

Guimarães have pulled off another impressive signing as they bolster their squad for the new season, with Porto midfielder João Carlos Teixeira confirmed as their latest recruit.

After a disappointing season last campaign, where they ended up finishing 9th in the Primeira Liga and bottom of their Europa League group, Guimarães have sent out many signs of intent this summer window, and bringing in the skilful ex-Liverpool winger on a permanent deal is only the latest in a long line of impressive additions.

Teixeira, 25, played twice for Portugal at under-21 level between 2013 and 2015, and was for a long time considered a hot prospect in Portuguese football.

But after a frustrating loan spell at Braga last season, where he showed glimpses of great skill and ability but only featured in 14 league games and 6 Europa League matches, Teixeira was ultimately not expected to return to his parent club Porto. But a move to Guimarães is still highly impressive business from the Portuguese side.

Teixeira is said to have moved to the club having been pleasantly surprised by the ambition they had shown, and it's easy to understand why.

His move sees him follow in the path of Andre Andre, 28, who also moved to Guimarães from Porto, and was an incredibly high-profile signing, having played a total of 64 league matches over the course of just three season for Porto, being a key player for the current Portuguese champions between 2015 and 2017.

Guimarães have also completed the signing of two Benfica players this summer, bringing in winger Ola John, 26, on a permanent deal, who played for Benfica 55 times over 6 season and had a spell at Wolves in 2016, while also completing the loan signing of 21-year old defensive midfielder Pêpê.

Additionally, Guimarães also brought in former Portugal U21 international centreback Frederico Venancio from Vitoria Setubal, who had a solid season on loan at English Championship club Sheffield Wednesday last year.

They also signed former Porto academy product Rafa Soares this summer, who has previously had loan spells at both Rio Ave and, less successfully, Fulham, and loaned in Porto's January signing Yordan Osorio, who came off an excellent spell at fellow Portuguese side Tondela.

With such excellent business this summer alone, Guimarães look set for an excellent campaign, and will be aiming to challenge Braga for that prestigious fourth spot in the league, helped by the fact that they will have no Europa League distraction this year.

With all these new recruits, added to an already talented squad containing the likes of former Paco's de Ferreira striker Welthon, who arrived in January, former Benfica midfielder Guillermo Celis, and the top scorer at the 2013 U19 European Championships Alexandre Guedes, Guimarães fans will certainly be excited to kick start the new season, particularly after an impressive pre-season campaign so far.
