Leonardo Jardim sacked as Monaco manager
Portuguese coach Leonardo Jardim has been sacked by Ligue 1 outfit Monaco in the coming days.
Jardim, 44, had been with the French side for over four years, arriving in the summer of 2014 as the replacement of Claudio Ranieri, and had seen his stock rise during his tenure.
But this season has been far from acceptable for a side that he has helped take steps forward in previous years, with Monaco accumulating just 6 points from 9 Ligue 1 games, meaning that Champions League competitors current sit in the relegation zone of the French top flight, four points from safety.
Their home defeat to Rennes at the weekend proved the final straw for the Monaco board, having seen their side - reduced to 10 men after Andrea Raggi received a straight red card just before half time - lose 2-1 courtesy of a late Hatem Ben Arfa rocket from outside the box.
That defeat continued an appalling run of results for Monaco, who have failed to win a single one of their last 10 consecutive outings.
With a shock relegation, even at this early stage, already a mild concern for those at the top, it's a surprise but not a shock to see them part ways with a man that has done so much for their club.
Having arrived with an already budding reputation, Jardim oversaw some extraordinary success at Monaco, particularly in his third season at the club where, with a youthful squad full of flair and attacking impotus, he managed to beat big-spenders PSG to the Ligue 1 title, finishing on an incredible 95 points, scoring a huge 105 goals in the process.
