Alex Telles officially signs for Manchester United
After much negotiation, Alex Telles’ widely anticipated move to Manchester United has finally been completed for a fee of just 18 million euros.
The 27-year old left back, who played in Porto’s last match - a 3-2 home defeat to Maritimo, where he even missed a penalty - has been expected to complete a move to Old Trafford for several weeks, but the inability of the two clubs to come to an agreement regarding the fee to be paid for the Brazilian international prolonged the transfer saga.
Now, however, with the transfer window coming to a close imminently, Porto finally accepted a fee of 15 million euros, which will rise by a further 3 million depending on certain objectives being fulfilled.
Telles has been a star for Porto since arriving at the club from Galatasaray in 2016, scoring an impressive 26 and assisting 57 from left back in 195 appearances for the club across all competition in his four years in Portugal, taking penalties and set pieces while on the books of the Portuguese champions.
However, entering his final year of contract, it was always expected that he would be available at a discounted price, with Porto not wanting to see another star leave for no fee at all, and therefore ended up accepting an offer below their asking price.
Manchester United suffered a shock 1-6 home defeat against Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur in their last fixture.
