Helder Costa completes move to Leeds United

Helder Costa has joined English Championship outfit Leeds United on a season-long loan.

That loan will be made permanent by the end of the season for a fee in the region of £15million.

That means that Wolves have been able to make a £2million profit on the Portuguese forward, who struggled for game time at Wolverhampton Wanderers last season, unable to impress in the first half of the season and not able to fit the system in the second.

He should, however, prove a very good signing for Leeds, back playing in the Championship yet again where he thrived for Wolves in his first season at the club.

Arriving at Molineux back in the summer of 2016 originally on a loan, Costa’s skill and attacking endeavour earned him the tag of fan favourite at the then-Championship club, his performance against Liverpool at Anfield in the FA Cup still fresh in the minds of the Wolves faithful.

So good were his performances that Wolves made the move permanent in January 2017 for £13million, making him the most expensive signing in the club’s history at the time.

He continued to impress throughout the season and his 12 goals and 8 assists across all competitions earned him the player of the year award.

He suffered an injury at the start of the next season, but still played a big part in helping Wolves win promotion under the guidance of Nuno Espirito Santo, bagging 5 goals and 6 assists in the league as Wolves finished 1st place in the English second tier.

As such, while his spell in the Premier League was largely unsuccessful, this deal should prove an excellent move for all three parties.
