Hernani has already found a new club

Hernani’s contract with Porto expired yesterday - 1st July - but he didn’t remain a free agent for long.

The 27-year old played a minimal role in Porto’s most recent campaign, featuring in 10 league games overall, but starting none of them - featuring for no more than 15 minutes in any of those outings either.

His lack of contract renewal therefore came as little surprise, and he is the first of all five Porto players who left the club upon the expiration of their contract to officially sign with a new club.

Spanish outfit Levante are the side that have snapped up the Portuguese winger, signing Hernani on a three year contract.

Levante finished 15th in La Liga last season, and already boast another Portuguese player in Ruben Vezo.

Hernani is not the most important first-team player to be leaving the club for free this summer though, with two long-serving starters also now free to leave for no cost at all.

Hector Hererra is one of those players. The Mexican international is to depart the Portuguese club, with Atletico Madrid widely expected to be the club to announce his acquisition.

Herrera captained Porto in over 130 matches, having started his spell at the club all the way back in 2013, making him by far one of the longest-serving Porto players in the side.

Yacine Brahimi is the other, who is reportedly a real target of English Premier league outfit Arsenal.
